Believe Workshop 2013

I'm so excited to share my experience at the Believe Workshop with you!

I had the good fortune to attend the 2013 Believe Wedding Workshop in Knoxville, TN over the weekend! In early January, a facebook friend of mine {who I suppose is a friend or fan of JoPhoto } tagged me in an advertisement for the Believe Workshop!

Each year, I budget 'x' amount of funds to be spent toward continuing education in an effort to learn & grown as an artist, business lady & photographer... to perfect my craft! Knoxville is just a 2hr drive through the Great Smokey Mountains into Tenessee {which is a BEAUTIFUL drive} if you've never made the drive, I'd highly suggest it! So, because the workshop was so close & the content being covered {Marketing, Branding & SEO} was an area that I want to improve on in 2013, I signed up & I'm SO glad I did!

The workshop was hosted by Joe & Kathleen Atkins of JoPhoto , Kristin Petticord of KLP Photography & Casey & Zack Peddicord of Nicholas&Keaton at the Smithview Pavilion & Event Center in Knoxville, TN.

It was money well spent! I learned SO much at the workshop & am so glad that I went!

One of my professional goals for 2013 was to improve my marketing & branding & understanding of SEO {search engine optimization}. The workshop hit all of those areas and I'm thrilled to begin implementing what I learned in the coming months!

{The very next day, I purchased a new HTML5 website & blog!} which I'll be launching that in March, so get excited for that, {I am}!!!

Attending Learning Workshops with a crowd of professional phtogoraphers is a WILD experience! Especially during skills application sessions! If you can imagine: We're all used to being the captain of the ship {having the models focused on just us, getting the perfect shot from the exact angle we want, etc.} when shooting photos, so when you have two models and 40 photographers, it get's a little crazy!!!

I'm including a link to a blog post by Jimmy & Kim of Perfect Capture Photo to give you an idea of what the chaos is like!

I'm sure it comes as no surprise to you that a Photography workshop isn't ALL work, We also played a little at the end of the day... joining in on the 'Harlem Shake' craze that's recently swept the interwebs via YouTube!

Charlie is ONE!!!

Charlie Perez is one of my FAVORITE client babies!

He's is the chubbiest, sweetest, smiliest, happiest little boy, I just ADORE him!

Charlie turned ONE last week, so we celebrated the occassion with a first birthday session!

I never thought I'd ever photograph a baby in a bar, but it happened!

{I had selected a location (a blue wall) to shoot against but it was pretty chilly & windy this weekend, so, to warm him up in the middle of the session, we walked across the street to Green Man Brewing & I found that I just loved the light in there!}

Chad & Megan...Engaged

Megan & Chad came all the way from Morganton on Saturday morning for their Engagement Session in Downtown Asheville!

It worked out that they wanted to shoot their engagmeent portraits & agreed to model for my workshop participants on Saturday, so we spent the morning hoping around downtown Asheville for their portrati session!

Not only are they an absolutely gorgeous couple, they're also super sweet & easy going!

I had a Blast with these guys!

Wedding Festival 2013

The 2013 Winter Wedding Festival was held this past weekened at the US Cellular Center in Asheville, NC.

This was my 2nd year as a vendor at the festival & it was a huge success!

It took a lot of time, effort & money to make it happen!

I couldn't have done it without a little help from my friends!

I'd like to Thank Sherry & the Ladies of The Pink House at 99 Weaverville hwy in Asheville, NC for their help in staging my booth!

They repurposed all of the furniture in my booth! {I purchased the side board buffet for last year's show} & they loaned me the end table and chairs this year! {Those items are for sale at The Pink House}!

Welcome to the Big World Baby Max!

This little guy had me totally wrapped around his precious little fingers!

Max & his Sweet Mommy came to the studio yesterday for a Newborn Session!

It was quite possibly one of the easiest Newborn Sessions I've ever had {in and out in less than 2hrs}! He had no objections to being in his Birthday Suit & he was Knocked out almost the entire time!

American Military Families Sacrifice SO MUCH for our Freedom...

One of the things that we often forget or don't consider are the {moments} they miss...

Like the husbands who miss out on experiencing the Beauty of their Wife's First Pregnancy & Life's Greatest Mircale... the Birth of their First Child.

The Stockham Family is one of those Selfless Military Families who have Sacrificed this for us...

Stephen & Jessica Stockham had just found out that they were expecting when Stephen was deployed to the Middle East.

While we've been sending him photos of Jessica as she grows, Stephen's missed out on Experiencing Jessica's First Pregnancy with her. So, for her {formal} maternity session, we wanted to not only shoot beautiful images to capture this moment in time, we also wanted to include personal items to make Stephen part of this session while he is away...

Baby David is expected on or about the 20th of December & I'll have the opportunity to shoot photo journalistic birth photography {which will be a first for me}! I'm a little nervous but am really excited to document this miracle for Stephen & Jessica. While he won't be there in person, he'll skype into the deliery room {but the internet where he's at isn't always that reliable} so I'm honored to have the opportunity to stand in and provide them with the digital memory of the experience!

It's been about a year since we've seen the Ballew Family, as they live in Raleigh & this past year brought a new addition to their sweet family!

Matt, Jen, Nora & Lily were in town for the Thanksgiving Holiday & Jen called me about a month ago to schedule a session for her adorable family, including it's newest member, Lily!

So, I went down to Jen's mom's house over the weekend for a quick family session with the Ballews! I'll tell ya, they have the worst weather luck I've ever seen! Two out of three Christmas sessions with them have turned off insanely cold when it was 70 ish degrees just days before!

Lily is just about the same age Nora was when I began photographing this family!

It was so nice to see them & meet precious little Lily & catch up over the weekend!

Meet The Holland Famiy: Jon, Bobbi, Henry & Lucie!

Bobbi is a friend of another of my clients & had seen their fall portrait session & contacted me to book a Christmas Card Mini Session for her sweet family!

Bobbi wanted to shoot downtown & I thought her idea was a great one for 'capturing a sense of place' for their Christmas cards, which they'll be sending all over the world!

Henry {who's 7} & his little sister, Lucie {who will be 5 next month} are the Sweetest, Most Well Behaved Children!

Although our session was a quick one {it was a Mini Christmas Card Session & also we were racing daylight/rain}, I really enjoyed my afternoon session with this adorable family!

Ataley Nix is a Precious Miracle... she was born with Spina Bifida and doctors told her parents that she likely wouldn't make it...

Ataley turned FOUR on Saturday!

I just LOVE the Morgan Family!

I've known Tiffany & BJ for years and I feel especially bonded to them & to sweet baby Paisley because they purchased my 'Belly to Baby' Package last year, so I shot their Maternity Portraits as well as their Newborn portraits. I'll also be shooting Paisley's 7 month portraits & her 1st Birthday session in the coming months!

Tiffany wanted to have a quick mini session to document Paisley at 6 months as well as to have some images for Christmas cards!

I'll be seeing Paisley again in December for her 7 month portrait session! {I shoot 7 month instead of 6 months} because babies are usually sitting up well on their own at 7 months and aren't yet crawling {it's my favorite age to photograph!}

Miss Paisley has been through a lot in her first six months, including a heart surgery to correct a defect... she's so sweet and strong and is doing really well now! She's ahead of the curve, she JUST learned how to sit up on her own, but can only do it for just a few seconds at a time!

I love these guys and was so happy to have been able to have had the opportunity to spend a little time with them over the weekend!

I've told you guys about a million times how much I LOVE Katie Myers & her Sweet Family!

The Myers Family have been wonderful, loyal clients for a little more than 2 years now!

As always, I was so excited when Katie called to book a fall portrait session for her family!

We always get excited about planning their sessions, it's almost conspiratory when we're successful as her boys aren't the biggest fans of having their portraits made! ;)

JT is the sweetest, cutest little guy, he's almost two and he's at the age where he's all over the place and is very strong willed and independent! So, just about the only way we can get him to do what we want is to bribe him with M&Ms...which I think is hillarious!

I really enjoyed my afternoon with this sweet family over the weekend!

Newborn Sessions are SUCH Hard Work!

It's funny, how in the end result, the baby always looks so peaceful and everyone looks so happy....

But the TRUTH is....

Newborn Sessions are HARD WORK!

It's SO HOT in the studio, everyone's sweating {gotta keep it warm for the baby!}. Everyone is working so hard to get the baby into position, to make them comfortable & calm and to get them to sleep. And, Some babies aren't big fans of being without their clothes or without their passy so, the shots you get are in that split second when the baby appears to be sleeping {but right after that, they're crying}. You get pooped on and peed on and puked on.

But its SO worth it!!!

Your baby will never, ever be this small again. So it's nice to have these precious moments captured on film, forever!

I've told you before, I Love Mark & Ashley Hughey! You probably remember their Maternity Session from the Blog back in August/September! I've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of baby Jase ever since & it was so good to finally meet this sweet baby boy!

As newborn sessions go, while we got some cute shots, we didn't get as many as I'd like and with daylight savings time, we lost light really early. I do have studio lighting but I prefer natural light for newborns. Luckily, his mommy is a friend of mine, so we're gonna try again in a week or two to give Jase time to adjust! As a general rule, I typically shoot newborn sessions asap after birth but sometimes these little ones just need a little time, so we're gonna give it another shot!

It was such a pleasure to finally meet the Guzy family for the first time over the weekend!

Andy & Kate are such Sweet folks!

Kate contacted me a few months ago to book a Fall Family Portrait Session for her Sweet Family after having seen a lot of work that I had done for her friends!

The Guzys have two children, Amber is almost 4 and is such a strong willed, silly, sweet little girl! Austin, the baby, is 16 months old and has recently gotten the hang of walk/running, so it proved {as always with 1.5yr olds} challenging to keep up him still!

I really enjoyed meeting this sweet family & ambling around shooting portraits with them on Saturday evening!

I look forward to working with you guys many times in the future!

I first met Amanda Everheart {and Lily} at a Wedding I shot a couple years ago, that Amanda was a Bridesmaid in! Amanda had just found out that she was pregnant with Lily just before that Wedding!

It was so neat to meet Sweet Little Lily, who is 11 months old now!

Amanda and her husband, Dave have been together for three years and live in Lincolnton. I was so excited when Amanda called to schedule Fall Family Portraits for her Sweet Family!

Amanda's mother, Karen, lives in Winston Salem & they all drove up to Asheville together to get some fall foliage & mountain scenery for their fall family portraits!

Natalie is ONE!!!

You may remember sweet Natalie's newborn photos from the blog last year! It's hard to believe that a whole year has passed since I first met this precious little girl! I can't believe she's already ONE! Time sure does fly!

I was so happy to get the call from her mom, Nicole to schedule her 1st Birthday Session/Family Session this month!

We chose to shoot her 1st Birthday Session outdoors because it's so Beautiful out there right now & to mark the season!

Natalie is the sweetest, little thing! She has the cutest little smile but {sadly} was sparing with those the other night as she wasn't feeling the best and it was close to bed time {she did really well, considering!}

I really enjoyed catching up with this sweet family!

I first met this family when I shot Hadley's Newborn Portraits the day she came home from the Hospital last Spring!

Jared & Amanda are such Sweet people!

Amanda had scheduled her fall family portrait session a couple months ago and I was so excited to finally meet them after months of planning and correspondence!

They drove up to Asheville from Forest City for their Session this weekend!

Noah is 8, he is such a funny, sweet little boy & Jackson is 8 months old and I'm not sure I've ever met a more precious, smiley baby!

I just Love this Sweet Little Family!

I just recently met Amanda when she took part in one of my recent promos but I've known Luke for years and years! His older brother & I were really good friends when we were kids & I was so pumped when Amanda called me to schedule a mini fall portrait session for her Beautiful, Sweet Little Family!

Amanda asked me if I was "up to the challenge" of photographing her adorbale two year old, Isabella!

I'll tell ya, two year olds don't scare me much!

Amanda & Luke had tried to shoot family portraits with another photographer last spring to no avail as two year olds can sometimes be unpredictable!

Jessica - 31 weeks

You recently met Jessica Stockham on the blog!

Jessica contact me a couple months ago to Book my Belly to Baby Package! Jessica is currently in her 31st week of pregnancy & you'll see her on the blog a few more times in the coming months!

Jessica & Stephen Stockham are expecting thir first child in just 9 more weeks! Jessica is a high school science teacher & Stephen is currently in depoloyment with the United States Army. Because of his deployment, Stephen will not be able to watch his beautiful wife grow during her pregnancy, so when Jessica contacted me to book the Belly to Baby Package, I offered to photograph her every month leading up to the birth of their son, David.

I've said it before, but you know I feel a special responsibility to our military families, so, instead of the traditional Belly to Baby Package, we modified the Package to include brief monthly growth photos for Jessica to send to Stephen, a traditional maternity session in her 36th week, birth photography, a newborn portrait session, a homecoming portrait session when Stephen returns home to meet his son, a 6 month portrait session & a 1st birthday portrait session for David!

When I met Jessica in person for the first time, I was moved by the gravity of what she has invited me to do for her family. I've always maintained that photography in general is not an impersonal profession, to the contrary, it's very personal. When you book a portrait session with me, you essentially invite me into your family, into your children's lives & into your relationships to try to capture the truth of who you are and the love that exists between you..It's an incredibly moving experience. So, when I met Jessica for the first time, the gravity of what she's asked me to do really hit me... Meet the Calloways!

Lucas & Erin are two of the nicest, most laid back people!

Erin booked a Mini Session for her Sweet Family Several Months ago so it was a Pleasure to Finally meet them!

Lucas & Erin met in Highlands NC, where Lucas is from, while Erin was getting her Bachelors Degree at Western Carolina University. A mutual friend introduced them on her 21st Birthday! He had to chase her for a couple months but they haven't been apart since! They have been together for 7 years & now have Foster who is 4 & sweet little Eliza Ruth who is 1. They live in Beaverdam {my old neighborhood!} & are just enjoying their Sweet Little Family!

We met up downtown Saturday afternoon for a quick family session & here are a few of the shots from our mini session!

Andy & Amanda...Engaged

Andy & Amanda are two very dear friends of mine.

I've just recently met & fallen in love with Amanda but have known Andy since I was a little girl as he was a good friend of my older brother's.

Andy & Amanda met when they were fifteen years old, playing basketball {which isn't surprising given that they've both got legs for days!} Life happened & they lost touch, only to reconnect via Facebook a few years ago! They've been head over heels ever since!

Once when they were first dating, Andy {who was living in DC at the time} flew from DC to Charlotte and Drove to the Mountains just to give Amanda Flowers. He then turned right around and drove back to Charlotte and flew back to DC. If that's not a {crazy and expensive} and romantic gesture, I don't know what is!?!

Kenzi is Amanda's Daughter and boy, the apple didn't fall far from the tree on that one! She is such a Sweet, Funny, Neat Little Girl, I just Love her to bits!

I ADORE this Couple. ADORE that Little Girl. ADORE this Family!

She contacted me a couple weeks ago to schedule engagement portraits for she and her fiancee Tory!

I was so happy to have spent some time with this adorable couple Tuesday afternoon!

Tory & Kasey have been together for five years {although he'd say it's more like 6?} Tory says that if you'd asked him 5 years ago if he'd ever get married, the answer would have been a resounding NO! But he couldn't resist sweet Kasey's charms! ;)

I first met Hannah & Michael after The Wedding Festival in Asheville last January.

I was thrilled when they chose me for their Wedding Photography.

Michael & Hannah have been together for quite a while & are the sweetest couple! They both graduated from UNCA in May & have just started their first jobs & now their life together as husband & wife!

Meet Jessica Stockham!

Jessica contact me about a month ago to Book my Belly to Baby Package! Jessica is currently in her 25th week of pregnancy & you'll see her on the blog many times in the coming months!

Jessica & Stephen Stockham are expecting thir first child in just 15 more weeks! Jessica is a high school science teacher & Stephen is currently in depoloyment with the United States Army. Because of his deployment, Stephen will not be able to watch his beautiful wife grow during her pregnancy, so when Jessica contacted me to book the Belly to Baby Package, I offered to photograph her every month leading up to the birth of their son, David.

When I met Jessica in person for the first time the other day, I was moved by the gravity of what she has invited me to do for her family. I've always maintained that photography in general is not an impersonal profession, to the contrary, it's very personal. When you book a portrait session with me, you essentially invite me into your family, into your children's lives & into your relationships to try to capture the truth of who you are and the love that exists between you..It's an incredibly moving experience. So, when I met Jessica for the first time, the gravity of what she's asked me to do really hit me... She's asked me to be part of the most special time in her life, to capture these moments that her husband will miss, to be part of her life...forever.

I grew up down the street from Ashley {Hall} Hughey, but ironically, it wasn't until we were in our 20's that we really became friends! {We had always been aquaintances/friendly} but we really became friends in our 20's and boyyyyyy do I LOVE her to pieces!

Ashley & Mark met at a Shooter Jennings Concert & have been Married for two years!

They're expecting their first child in just about 7 more weeks!

Lyfe & Catherine Pauciello are two of my Most Favorite people!

I met Catherine when I was just 15 years old & she's been one of my Very Best Friends ever since! Cat has always been like the older sister I never had, she's always been there for me and is the the most kind, thoughtful friend I could ever ask for!

We've made a lot of really unforgetable memories over the years, I was her maid of honor {by default ;) } in their Wedding and we've been on trips together and although life keeps us both very busy, our friendship is such that when we get together, it's as if we haven't missed a beat!

Cat & Lyfe came up to North Carolina from Ft. Lauderdale over the long weekend for Catherine's nephew's 1st Birthday and they made time to meet me in Black Mountain for lunch on Friday {which I thought was really special since they only had a short time to be here with Catherine's family!}

Anyway, if you can believe it, I've never photographed Lyfe & Catherine so I was Super Excited to get them in front of my Lens, if only for a few shots!

I love you guys so much!

Jonathan & Jill Story are two of the Sweetest people I've ever met!

They're so warm, kind, and gracious! They're just a really lovely couple & I am so honored to have had the opportunity to meet them and to have been part of such a special day for them!

They live in Charlotte and wanted a small, intimate Wedding with just themselves & their parents!

Their location choice couldn't have been more perfect! They were Married Saturday at The Cottages at Spring House Farm!

The location was absolutely Gorgeous! Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, The Cottages at Spring House Farm has several cabins on the property where the couple stayed and were married in the gazeebo on one of the ponds which was covered in beautiful lily pads, it was something from a storybook! After a lovely ceremony, they had a reception lunch with their parents on the porch of the main house which is a registered national historic home! It was just so beautiful! If you haven't been out to the The Cottages at Spring House Farm, I would certainly suggest it!

William Jackson Edwards

Last week, I had the rare opportunity to take a 'mini vacation' as I had a four days with nothing scheduled! So, I chose to spend those four days with one of my best friends and college roommate, Sarah Jayne & her adorably sweet family!

Sarah Jayne & I lived together during my junior year of college! I love SJ so much, she's one of my favorite people! Although we live about 6hrs apart & have busy lives, our friendship is such that when we're together, it's like we haven't missed a beat!

In the past couple years, life has brought a couple really wonderful changes for Sarah Jayne! She's now married now and has a one year old son! She's such a beautiful person, it wasn't hard to guess that she would be an incredible wife & mother!

I've been promising Sarah Jayne that I would get down to visit her since William was born but have been SO busy with work that I've let the time slip on by and just now got around to getting down to Greenville to meet Sarah Jayne's adorable little boy, William!

We spent a couple days in Greenville, hanging out {major nostalgia for me!} and then spent a couple days at their family beach house in Morhead City/Atlantic Beach! I had such a wonderful time doing both! It was nice to get away and relax & catch up with some dear friends!

Although William is almost a year and a half, and he's on the go, and not particularly thrilled about staying still for a photo, I did get a few really cute shots of him!

Cameron...Almost 2

There are two things I know for sure:

1. Newborns who sleep all day, every day prior to their newborn session will inevitably be awake for the entire day on the day that I shoot their newborn session.

2. The cutest kids, the ones that I'm most excited about photographing will Always make me work for it!

Little Miss Cameron Braxton was no exception to this rule!

Cameron is the cutest little girl, I mean look at that infectious little smile of hers!

Cameron & her parents made their way up to Asheville on Saturday from South Carolina for her {almost} 2yr session!

I was so excited for her session, her parents & I had grand plans for her {almost} 2yr old session but Cameron had some plans of her own!

Two year olds are challenging to photograph, so I thought I'd share some tips on photographing them!

1. Every 2 year old is different. Accept it!

Every child is different, but more specifically, every two year old is different & depending on which day and/or what time you catch them, their mood's gonna be different! You've gotta just accept it and roll with it!

2. Keep it simple.

You may think you're in charge of the session but the truth is: Babies/Toddlers/Children {and especially two year olds} are running the show. Try to avoid making too many plans, because you're gonna get what they're gonna give you!

3. Timing is EVERYTHING.

Nap time, Meal time, Time of Day is EVEYRTHING when shooting a session with a baby/toddler/child. You want them happy, so you shoot at the time of day that they're happiest and do everything you can to ensure that happines {ie- shedule nap times, meal times, shoot times around their schedule when you can!}

4. They're FAST. Keep up!

Once they're mobile, they're on the gone! So you're often chasing them, following them and letting them do whatever it is they're gonna do {to keep them happy} and you're just gonna get what you can!

5. Get Creative

Props that are interesting to them will sometimes help with slowing them down a bit so you can get some photos! In this case, I brought a lot of fun props to no avail but the balloons were the ticket!

6. Bribes

The concept is pretty simple, rewarding desirable behavior.

Doing something or going somewhere they enjoy IF they do _______.

With two year olds, it's a little more tricky because some of them don't yet totally understand the concept of bribes but it won't hurt to give it a try!

Last but certainly not least, Don't give up!

You'll be surprised at what you actually get!!!

The Effler Family...All the Way from WV!

Kim Effler's been 'stalking my blog' for quite a while now!

I was SO excited when she called me to schedule a family session for her sweet family while they were in town from WV visiting their extended family!

I had photographed Beautiful Little Lexi a few years ago when I had first started my business! I guess I made a believer out of Kim during that session becaue she's been a loyal fan/follower ever since!

I LOVE Kim & Jerome Effler & their adorably sweet children!

They are the sweetest, kindest people!

{For example, we had all kinds of props for this session, they wouldn't let me carry a thing hardly which was strange but awesome!}

I just can't tell you enough wonderful things about this family!

I totally adore them!

{Isn't Lexi a doll! She told me she wants to be on America's Next Top Model when she gets older!}

Anyway, Love you guys to pieces & am looking forward to photographing your family many times in the future!

I know I say it a lot .... It might be because I love children so much, but I'm pretty sure it's because I have the cutest, sweetest, most adorable clients around!

Destiny & Serenity Gaines are the absolute SWEETEST little girls!

They're sisters, with with only a year between them, so they're the best of friends too!

They are SO cute, almost unbearably cute and their little personalities are just as sweet as they are adorable! They're so well behaved & have the best manners of any 2-3 year olds I've ever met! :)

They live in Fayetville, NC where their dad is in the Military and their mom is in cosmetology school.

These little sweeties were in town visiting their family & I was thrilled when their aunt contacted me to book a session for them!

Does Size Matter?

My Clients ask me on a Regular Basis:

"Does Size Really Matter?"

My answer is always a resounding:

"YES!"

When it comes to Custom Portrait Photography, as a general rule:

"Bigger is Always Better"

The visual impact that a large format print can make in your home, is second to none.

I get it, you don't always have the wall space for a large print or canvas but as you can see, the larger format print makes a much bigger visual impact than does the smaller one.

Try to think about it like this:

A Large Wall Portrait or Fine Art Gallery Wrap Canvas is an investment. Like a piece of Art or Furniture or Jewelry.

You're never going to throw it away. It will hang in your home, in your children's homes, in their children's homes and even their great, great grand children's homes. It becomes a family heirloom.

The timeless, classic photo of your child will become the heirloom that your great, great, great grandchildren adore long after you're all gone.

Don't skimp. Save up. You'll be Glad You Did!

Samuel - Inspiration Through Art Session

If you know the story of how Inspired Life Photography was born, you know that I have always been really aware of just how Lucky I am. It's always felt a little like the hand of God was on this life venture. From the very begining, my business just took off in a way that doesn't happen for most people, the past few years have been nothing short of a whirlwind. I have been blessed beyond belief and certainly more than I deserve.

I've always felt that it was important for me to give back in any way that I could. So anytime that I'm approached to donate a session for charity or to shoot pro bono for a non profit, I always do it. I still felt that those gestures weren't enough. So I began searching and I stumbled upon an organization that felt like it was just the right fit.

Several months ago, I joined a leauge of Photographers from across the country who aim to make a difference in the lives of the families of children with serious illnesses and life altering disabilities.

Samuel Norton was the first child that I have had the opprotunity to work with through Inspiration Through Art.

Samuel just turned ONE! The first year of his life brought the Norton family so many unexpected challenges and they wanted to celebrate this huge milestone for him.

Samuel was diagnosed at birth with Down Syndrome and a heart defect. At 2.5 months old, he had open heart surgery to repair the hole in his heart. During the surgery, an injury was made to the electrical system of his heart. Samuel & his parents spent about a month in the ICU while they waited for it to repair itself. It never did. Samuel needed a pacemaker in order to leave the hospital, so a few weeks later, he went back into surgery and had one implanted. He had a rough cold and flu season and spent a lot of time at the doctor's office and even had to be hospitalized again.

Samuel's doing well these days, he's working on physical therapy and learning to eat solid foods. He just learned to sit up on his own and his parents are beginning to teach he & his brother Luke {3} sign language as hearing loss is another threat to Samuel's health. He's such a sweet, giggly, happy little guy and you can just sense that the Nortons are just so grateful to have made it through this year!

It was such an inspiring and moving experience to have been able to work with the Norton family, to give them even this small gift was an honor!

I was/am so jazzed about this rad new prop chair that I just got!

I put a call out last week for a Blue Eyed Beauty to help me model it & Kenz was perfect for the job!

Kenzi is 6 years old, she's gonna be in first grade this year but she seems much more mature for her age! She is the prettiest, sweetest, funniest little thing!

You can't help falling in love with this little girl {I've met her before briefly at a couple of weddings that I photographed and spent just about an hour with her last night!}

I look forward to photographing her {and hopefully her parents along with her next time!} in the future!

Country Chic Wedding - Kris & Paige are Married!

What a Beautiful Wedding!

Kris & Paige were married at Paige's Parent's Farm in Morganton, NC on Sunday August 5th, 2012!

There was so much thought, time, effort, and LOVE put into every detail of this Wedding!

It was an emotional & joyous day for everyone at Lamb Farm!

Paige & Kris have been together for eight years and have many, many people who love them and it seems that all of them came from far and wide accross the country to help this incredibly sweet couple celebrate their union!

Probably my favorite thing about this Wedding {there are many things I loved} but I thought that the reading during their ceremony was the most original, sweetest thing! Kris's grandfather officiated the ceremony & read an excerpt from the children's book, The Velveteen Rabbit:

"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"
"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."
"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.
"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."
"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"
"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

CY - 6 months old

Time Flies When You're Having Fun!

It was just about 7 Months ago that Kenzi was dancing around my living room for what has become one of my favorite maternity images that I've ever shot!

Needless to say, I was TOTALLY game when she called me with the idea of doing a progression portrait for Cy's 6 Month Portrait Session!

This time, they were dancing around my new studio space!

I am completely serious when I tell you that Cy is the SWEETEST little guy! He looks just like his daddy! He's such a smiley, happy, flirty little fella! He's also quite a little chunk! I just love him to pieces!

I've had the opportunity to photograph several of "my babies" lately! It always makes me really happy when mommies bring their babies back to me to document their growth! I have a special fondness for the children that I photograph consistently and I really think that you can feel that in their images!

It is such a privilege to watch him grow!

Paige Getting Married!

It's hard to believe that Paige & Chris's Wedding Day is Finally here!

It seems like a lifetime ago that Paige contacted me to book her Wedding!

Chris is in the Navy, so he and Paige have been stationed in Washington for the last couple years. I first met Paige when she came home {to Morganton} in the Spring to take care of some Wedding Planning Details! We met at her parent's farm in Morganton to check out the Wedding Venue & Shoot her Bridal Portraits!

It's hard to believe that it's been a year since I was shooting Ryker Herron's Neborn Portraits!

Allison Harmon has been following my work for quite some time & I was thrilled when she was finally able to schedule a portrait session for she & her son Nick!

Allison's husband, Brian just left with active duty orders and is headed to Afghanistan {so this will be a nice surprise for him to have some beautiful photos to take with him!} I was glad to have been able to give such a gift to this sweet family!

The Harmon family has been through so much in the last couple years! Thankfully, Allison just finished cancer treatments! So, it was also nice that she & Nick {who just recently turned two} could celebrate with a portrait session!

I was SO Thrilled when Lindsey Johnson told me that she and her husband, Cliff were expecting their first child!

I've known Lindsey for many, many years and I was Cliff & Lindsey's Wedding Photographer a little more than a year ago! I am always very fond of my Wedding Couples because we work closely together before, during, and after their Wedding. I grow especially fond of them when I shoot their Engagement & Bridal Portraits and then their Wedding! Each Couple who books their Wedding with me also receives complimentary maternity and newborn portraits when and if they decide to start a family!

So, needless to say, I was SO, SO excited to find out that Lindsey & Cliff were expecting! They are the first of my Wedding couples to Welcome a Child!

Hoyt Coke Johnson, named after his Grandfathers, made his way into the world on Friday July 20th, 2012.

Not only is he the first Inspired Life Photography Wedding Baby, he was the first baby to be photographed in my new studio space too!

Hoyt is already so special to me!

He is the absolute cutest little guy! He's just so tiny and adorable & he's got the sweetest little cry you've ever heard!

Evona Grace, named for her Great Grandmother, absolutely stole my heart today!

She is the cutest, sweetest, most precious little girl!

I was worried about her session because she's 16 days old & I typically don't shoot newborn portraits after the first 7 days as the newborn photography process is made more difficult after the first week! But Evona was such a good baby for me today! She slept so well and hardly minded being posed for her portraits!

I've known Evona's mommy for several years & was thrilled when she contacted me to schedule newborn portraits for her sweet girl!

It was so nice to meet Weston & Amber Branch & their daughter, Kilee on Friday Evening! Amber had contacted me to book a July Promotional Session for her Sweet Military Family!

Weston is in the Army Reserves/National Guard.

It was such a pleasure to meet this sweet couple, who were high school sweet hearts! In fact, they started dating when they were in middle school! The couple's daughter, Kilee is the cutest little thing!

JT - 18 months!

I've been photographing JT Myers for about a year and a half now & it's been such a treat to watch him grow!

I know I say it everytime that JT and/or his family are on the blog, but I completely adore the Myers family! JT is such a sweet, handsome little fella! I love his mom, Katie, she is the best mom! You can spend even five minutes with her & JT and I swear, I'm not sure anyone loves their child more! She's such an awesome mom!

My what a difference 6 months makes! The last time I saw JT was for his 1st birthday session, six months ago {he was crawl/walking and had brown hair}! It was a cold, rainy January morning & he was not as thrilled about 1st birthday portraits as mommy & I were!

This time, I pulled up and JT is walking, talking and has blond hair! :) This time, mommy & I got his number! We did ONLY the things JT's into right now! For instance, he LOVES Mickey Mouse, Reading with Mommy, Candy, Swimming & Swinging.... So that's exactly what we did for his session!

I Love when getting creative pays off! ;)

Dustin & Ashley both went to Montreat College and have been together for five years! They're both very sweet people and are such an adorably sweet couple! I first met them last winter over dinner at Vinny's when they booked their July Wedding!

They were married last Saturday at Little Acres in Marion, NC.

This wedding, coincidentally was my my second this summer who's color scheme was blue & orange! The colors were perfect for summer as the blue & orange contrast well with the abundance of green present in the summer months here in the mountains!

Ashley wanted to keep things simple for the Wedding. There were a lot of personal touches and a lot of love put into making the wedding happen! I loved all of the Mason Jars filled with flowers and candles! Dustin & Ashley were surrounded by all of their friends and family as they said I DO under an arbor that the groomsmen constructed themselves!

Dustin & Ashley will be Honeymooning in the Bahamas for the next couple weeks!

Austin & Kendal... MARRIED!

It's no big secret that I totally adore Austin & Kendal Hensley!

I've known the couple for most of my life! They were one of the first couples I photographed when I first started my business and have remaind great friends and loyal customers ever since!

Kendal is my biggest fan & I absolutely love her for it!

I was probably one of the first people she called when Austin finally propsed! I am so honored to have been part of such a special time in their lives!

You may remember Austin & Kendal's Biltmore Engagement Session on the blog last fall! They brought along their {not so little} Doberman Puppy, Alex for that session!

Kendal & Austin have been together for the better part of the last decade! Kendal is a teacher & Austin is a police officer. They're the kindest, most thoughtful, genuine, sweet, wildly FUNNY, fun couple I know! They're different, yet they compliment each other in such a way that their coupling just seems like it's what should be. They're totally perfect for each other and I adore them so much!

Austin & Kendal have a special fondness for the US Virgin Islands, they have been going there together for years so it seemed the obvious choice that they would be married there!

They were married in the Islands this past spring, in a beautiful, intimate ceremony and while I was sad to have missed that trip, I was thrilled to have been asked to be part of their Wedding Reception in Newland, NC last weekend!

Their reception was held at the private home of Austin's Godmother, Ann. Kendal had always told me how beautiful the property was but I had no idea it would be this gorgeous!

The reception was perfect! Kendal & Austin's parents put in so much time and effort to give the most beautiful celebration of their union! The location was absolutely breath taking, the decor was gorgeous, the food was delicious, the music was awesome & the crowd was filled with friends & family that love them so much!

Many Congratulations & Best Wishes to a Long & Happy Life Together!

The Groom's Mother, Carol had a Jewelry Designer in Atlanta custom make these Bracelets as a Gift for the Groom which are Identical to the ones Kenny Chesney is wearing for his tour & cannot be bought in stores!

I thought it was very Sweet that Kendal had pinned her sorority pin into her Wedding Dress!

This was a 'very funny but you had to be there' outtake from the end of the evening!

{There were about 7 of us piled on a gator trying to climb a gigantic mountain for photo ops, we were all falling off, it was a really funny moment!}

It's hard to believe that it was just over a year ago that I had the privilege of photographing Cliff & Lindsey Johnson's Wedding!

Typically, I offer all of my newlyweds a Complimentary 1st Anniversary Session as well as Maternity & Newborn Portrait Sessions!

It was such a pleasant surprise earlier this year when I found out that Lindsey & Cliff were expecting in July!

Dayton...3 Years Old!

You would not believe how well behaved Dayton Elliott is!
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing sweet Dayton a few times over the last couple years!

It’s been a while since I’ve seen him though, I couldn’t believe how much he’d grown since the last time I saw him! He’s SO tall!

Usually, three year old little boys run away from me, they’re easily distracted, and definitely don’t want their photos taken! I really have to work for it! So, imagine my surprise when Dayton was SUCH a good boy! He was SO well behaved and cooperative, he did everything I asked and was so sweet! His session was really quick, we were literally done in 30 minutes!

Dayton Loves Trains & he had the Perfect Outfit, so a Railway Inspired Portrait Session seemed just the ticket!

I first met Carly & Jonathan on a cold, rainy afternoon in March when they booked their May 2013 Wedding with me!

Carly has a Wonderful Wedding Planner who encouraged her to start early! Which happens to be the BEST advise you can give to a newly Engaged Bride! There is SO much to do, to plan, and to pay for when planning your wedding, so, starting early & planning ahead is the absolute best thing you can do for yourself!

Carly & Jonathan wanted to shoot their Engagment Photos around the same time of year that they'll be married next year! They're also planning to be married in a Barn so their County themed Engagment Session was perfect!

Jenny Withrow has to be one of the Sweetest ladies, ever!

I first became acquainted with Jenny when she nomintated her niece, Megan to be one of my 2012-2013 Senior Ambassadors {you'll meet Megan a little later!} So I was thrilled when Jenny contacted me to book a Barefoot Summer Session for her Sweet family!

Jenny & Greg will have been married two years in July!

The couple had just been married six months when God surprised them with baby Ryder who is now Ten months old! Greg is currently working on his Master's Degree in Theology and is Pastor of a Church in Marion, NC. He & his congregation are currently looking for a building to purchase {so realtors out there, keep an eye out!}

Ryder at ten months is the cutest, sweetest, smiliest little guy! He was absolutely precious and such a good sport throughout their session, even though it was getting awfully close to his bedtime!

It was such a pleasure spending a beautiful Thursday evening with this wonderfully kind family! I adore the Withrows!

Ashley Lail is such a Sweet, Kind person! She's such a fun, easy going mom, the kind of mom that I'd consider a 'cool mom' if I were her teengage daughter's age!

Ashley's children are the sweetest, most well behaved kids! It was hard to believe that Carter is only 6 years old! {although he'll be 7 on July 3!!} Usually six year old boys wanna run away from me and most definitely don't want me to take their pictues! That certainly was not the case with Carter {who's name I also really adore as it's a family name for me, I'll probably name a child Carter some day!} These kids were awesome which wasn't at all surprising given how awesome their mom is!

Charlie - 4 months

I feel like I have the best job in the whole world for many reasons...

One of those reasons is that my job affords me the opportunity to meet some of the sweetest, kindest people that I may never have met, had they not come to me for their portrait needs!

For example, I didn't know Kristin Perez, we don't live in the same neighborhood or share any mutual friends but because she came to me for portraits of her 4 month old son, Charlie, now I know her & her adorably sweet family! I'm so happy to have met the Perez family! They're such kind, sweet, easy going people, which made spending my evening with them, so much fun!

Charlie is 4 months old now! He is the absolute cutest, chubbiest, sweetest little guy! He's very strong for a four month old! He can push himself up & hold his head up while doing it, and he can sit up {with a little help from the props!} He's all smiley and sweet! The kind of baby you just can't help but fall in love with!

His parents are awsome! David & Kristin have been married for four years and waited a long time for this little guy to bless their lives!

The Romance of Carnival

When I decided to do a series of Inspired Carnival Themed Sessions, I knew that I wanted a very specific look for my Romance of Carnival Session.

In my mind, I was thinking that I wanted something similar in nature to the book/movie Water for Elephants for this session!

So, I asked my friends if any of them wanted to model for me... Brandi Herron {who is a client turned friend!} volunteered and I was thrilled because I just knew she and her husband Jason would be perfect for the vision I had in my mind and boy did she get it right!

I adore Jason & Brandi Herron & am so happy with the way their Romance at Carnival Session turned out!

I really love Mike & Onee Pressley!

You’ve probably seen the Gorgeous Pressley sisters on the Blog before! But this time, I got the rare opportunity to photograph the WHOLE family! Even Mike!

Mike works out of town quite a lot so it’s not everyday that he’s home for a photo session and the fact that he was ‘semi-willing’ to allow me to photograph him... well, that’s really special!...so I hear! ;)

Granted, the Pressley men weren’t the most eager participants, they sure were good sports about it & I enjoyed my time with this sweet family all the same!

Mike & Onee have four children... Legend & Cannan are the boys and Michael & Emerson are the girls!

Gus & Jamie are Married!!!

I first met Jamie at The Wedding Festival in Asheville last January!

She had emailed me the day before the Festival to let me know that she'd be seeing me there! It was such a hectic day at the festival, I only briefly met Jamie & her mom, Elaine!

As things go in the age of technology, we got to know each other through emails, phone calls and text messages until a little more than a month ago, Jamie & Gus took time out of their crazy busy lives {they were both in Medical School in Tennessee} to come down to Asheville for their Engagement photos!

That day, I just fell in love with Jamie & Gus! They're different, yet sweetly, the same! They're both so easy to be around, they're obviously intelligent, they're kind and really really funny! I just really enjoyed being around them and getting to know them in photographing their engagement photos!

Wedding planning isn't a sprint, it's a marathon & I'd been with Jamie since February, so when the day finally came, it was surreal for me, it was hard to believe that it was finally here, all the preparation, the emails and phone calls and text messages leading up to this event and now it was here!

The Bradley Family....All the Way from Virginia

I know I say it a lot... how much I adore the folks I work with.

Honestly though, I completely and totally ADORE the Bradley Family!

They're so Special to me!

I've never met a sweeter, more pure, kind hearted person than Candice Bradley. I just love and admire her so much! So I was thrileld when she contacted me to book a family portrait session for her sweet family while they were visiting family & vacationing in North Carolina!

My business relationship with the Bradley Family began when I started my business a little more than 2 years ago! It's hard to believe that time has passed so quickly! Last time, we were shooting photos of Cannan for his daddy while he was deployed!

Cannan just turned Three years old! It was such a treat to see him, in all his 'little boy' glory! He's grown so much! He's such a sweet, handome, funny little fella!

This time, he brought along his new'ish little sister, Nora! She is an absolutel doll baby! It was so nice to have Logan here this time around for a family portrait session!

These children are so adorable and so sweet, but I couldn't expect anything less, just take a look at their incredible parents!

Chloe is 3 Months!

My...How Time Flies! It seems that it was just yesteday that we were Welcoming Baby Choloe into the World!

Can you believe it's been 3 months already?!?

{to me} 3 month olds are a 'hard' age to photograph, mostly because there's not a whole lot they can do in terms of posing. They're just starting to get the hang of focusing their eyes on something, they're not quite used to being on their bellies and they're just getting the hang of supporting the weight of their heads! So I think, it's hard to find posing that works! I look forward to the 6-8 month range when they're all fat and giggling, not yet crawling, a captive audience! :)

In my family, it's a big joke about how chubby all of Stacey's children get! I've never seen chubbier babies! {It's funny but SO cute!}

I spent a few days with Chloe & her older sisters this week, I spend a lot of time working so I only get down to see them & spend some time about once every month or two! It was nice to spend time with the girls, loving on them & playing with them!

Chloe is the cutest, sweetest, chubbiest little thing, she is totally spoiled ROTTEN!!! I'm not sure if there ever was a child so Loved! For instance, she enjoys naps while being held, preferably rocked, and if you know what's good for you, you'll have a warm bottle close at hand! She's smiling and cooing and laughing now, so that's really cute as well!

It's no secret that I Adore babies, toddlers & small children, but the truth is, I'd forgotten how much I LOVE photographing teenagers! Lately, I've been shooting a lot of maternity, newborn, babies & brides! It's been a while since I've had the opportunity for a family session with older kids, so I was thrilled when Lori Ledford called to book her family portrait session!

Greg & Lori have been married for 17 years! They're the sweetest people! Their children, Levi & Logan are both in high school & are equally as awesome as their parents!

I really enjoyed spending the evening with this awesome family last night!

It was especially fun since the kids weren't running away from me! ;)

I'm totally in love with the family's dog, LJ! He's two and he's SO big/strong, he's the cutest fella!

I didn't have to wait long for baby Olivia to arrive!

We shot the Hart family Maternity Portraits just days before Olivia made her grand entrance!

Olivia Leigh Hart ws born on May 15th, 2012 at 12:33am!

She weighed in at 7 lb 7oz, and was 20 inches long!

I did have to wait for a little bit to shoot her newborn portraits as she had a little bit of jaundice after birth! So, I finally got the opportunity to meet this precious little girl yesterday afternoon!

She's so tiny and sweet!

She's such a little wiggle worm & is as cute as can be! She looks just like her big brother, Aiden!

Congratulations to Tim & Laura! She is absolutely beautiful!

I look forward to being part of her life in documenting her growth over the next year!

I've known Tiffany & BJ Morgan for years!

Alicia - Getting Married

It was SO hard to sit on Alicia's Stunning Bridal Portraits for a little more than a month!

We shot Alicia's bridal portraits in Black Mountain on a rainy April afternoon! A little rain didn't stop us! In fact, it actually worked in our favor! Not only did that April shower pass right on through, it left the sky overcast which provided the ambiant light for this session! The rain also left the earth in brilliant colors & awakened the smoke on the Blue Ridge Mountains!

The scenery on this day was nothing in comparission to how absoultely beautiful Alicia looked in her Wedding Dress!

The Hart Family - Waiting for Baby!

I was thrilled when Laura Hart contacted me to book the Belly to Baby Package for baby Olivia!

Laura works with one of my 2011 brides in the Neuro Trauma Unit at Memorial Mission Hispital! She said that I came 'highly recommended'! Thanks April! {So sweet of you!}

Tim is from Georgia & Laura is from Missouri by way of New Hampshire & they met during Laura's first week in Asheville at the dog park! They're such sweet people! So easy going, kind & funny! They're also wonderfully laid back, natural parents!

Aiden is 16 months old, he's the most adorable little fella! He's still little and not quite aware that he's going to be a big brother any day now!

The thing that I love most about booking the Belly to Baby Package is that it allows me to be part of my client's lives for an entire year! To not only document the pregnancy & baby's growth but also to document the love & family dynamics of the newest member! I look forward to seeing how Aiden settles into becoming a big brother! I have a sneaking suspicion that he'll be a wonderfully sweet big brother to baby Olivia!

I've known Cortney since College, she is the sweetest, most beautiful person! I was totally thrilled when she contacted me to book a family session a few weeks ago! Justin & Courtney are such sweet, kind, funny people! They're little boy, Elijah is the most adorable thing I've ever seen! I've been absolutely dying to photograph him, pretty much since he was born!

We shot their family session downtown Raleigh last weekend! I'll tell ya, everytime I'm especially excited to photograph a child, they're not the most willing participants! They always make me work for it! ;) However not totally into picture taking Eli was, he certainly is the cutest, sweetest, most adorable little thing!

Gus & Jamie met when they were Freshmen at The University of Tennessee!
They’ve come a long way since then! Today, both are just about to finish up Medical School & will be moving to Lexington, KY for their Residencies after their June Wedding!

I first met Jamie at the Asheville Wedding Festival in January! Although, she had contacted me the day before the festival to let me know she’d be seeing me there! Jamie is from Tennessee & Gus is from Winston Salem so Asheville seemed the perfect middle ground for their Wedding! Three Years Ago, Danny walked into a Crowded Gymnasium.The ONLY seat left was right beside the woman who is now his future Wife!

Amy says she liked Danny before that day. She told him once before that she liked the Jacket he was wearing. Danny says he thought she was Beautiful the first time he saw her but he was a little afraid of 'Pop' {Amy's dad}!

Danny took a seat beside Amy. They didn't watch much of that ball game. Instead, they laughed and talked that entire night for what became the Begining of their Love Story!

Danny & Amy have been together for Three years now. They're both good Christian folks & are very Active in their Church. Individually they're both very sweet, kind, funny, fun people. Together, they radiate Love. Love for the Lord, Love for Each Other & Love for Others.

Amy had no idea when she booked her 1st Couples Portrait Session that she would walk away Engaged! When Danny called me a few Weeks ago to let me know he was planning to propose during our Session. I was simply overjoyed!

I can think of no one who deserves her Happy Ending more than Sweet Amy!

My favorite part about relationship building with my clients is that when I photograph them consistently overtime, we begin to feel like old friends and a photo session feels more like a morning in the park with friends than work!

I've photographed Patrick & Mandy Gladys & their son, Nolan many times over the last couple years! I just love the Gladys family!

Mandy & Patick are such easy going, fun people & Nolan is such an adorable little boy!

Nolan recently turned TWO & true to form, he's doing all the things that two year old little boys do! His favorite word at the moment happens to be: NO! He's not a big fan of posing for photos, loves to run, loves sticks and his sweet parents!

I've had the pleasure of photographing Vickie & her Beautiful daughter, Hunter a few times over the past year & I just adore both of them!

I was so excited when Vickie called me to schedule an appointment for the newest member of the family.... WILBER!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I totally adore the Solomon Family!

It's so hard to believe that a year ago, I was shooting Griffin's Newborn Session! Time sure does fly!

I first met Shelley last fall when I shot halloween portraits of Adelyn! Since then, I've had the pleasure of getting to know and working with her on other projects as well! I just love Shelley, she is the sweetest!

Adelyn just turned ONE last month & to mark the occassion, Shelley & Andrew wanted to 're-create' their Engagement Portraits which were shot in downtown Asheville! This time, they wanted to include Adelyn in them {which I thought was a really neat idea}!

The 're-creation wasn't exact by any means but had a similar feel to that of their engagement photos which were shot by the highly talented Visio Photography team a few years ago!

My family welcomed it's newest member this week!

Chloe Mae Medford arrived on February 28th, 2012 at 6:59am! She weighed 7lbs, 6oz and was 18inches long!

The funny thing is: I told her mom for a week before she arrived that she'd be here on Tuesday & I was right!

Chloe was just THREE days old when I shot her newborn portraits! It's true, that Tuesday's child is full of Grace! Chloe was the very first newborn that I've photographed who didn't pee, poop or vomit on any of my props! ;)

I believe I've finally discovered the secret!

Emily, Luke & the Boys!

I've known Emily since kindergarten!

We tried to get together for a portrait session of she & her boys two years ago but got rained out on the day of the session & were just now able to make make it work again! And, JUST in time for Engagement/Maternity portraits as Emily & Luke got Engaged on Christmas & are expecting their first child together in late July!

Emily & Luke are the sweetest people and the boys are total sweetie pies!

Ellijah, who's 8, is the oldest & is clearly the leader of this gang!

James, who's 6, is the Flirt in this crowd!

and Leland, the youngest, will be 4 in a couple weeks is the wild man in this bunch!

Congratulations Luke & Emily! You have a Beautiful family and lots of wonderful things to look forward to in the coming months!

I host a Boudoir event once/year in January & this year's event was very successful! I had Sixeteen gorgeous ladies this year!

Ashley Hughey & Lacey Jones provided hair and makeup services to the girls! The shoot out happened at VaVaVoom in Downtown Asheville & these beautiful women gifted their photos to their fiancee's & husbands for Valentines day!... Imagine their surprise!

Today we braved the 23 degree / -5 degree wind chill to shoot Engagement Portraits at Biltmore Estate!

This was my third session with Alisha Cardenas & her family & it appears that the third time's the charm! Alisha contacted me a couple months ago to schedule an engagment & family portrait session!

Alisha & Jaime have been together for what seems like forever but just recently became engaged! The couple has three beautiful children, Alexa, Dominic & Arhianna!

Alexa, the oldest is very 'momma hen' with her siblings, Dominic is a little wild man & Arhianna, the baby of the family finally warmed up to me during this session {which made me very happy!} I shot Arhianna's birthday session last year & she was quite unsure of me and my big camera! This time around she was much happier to let me photograph her!

I just love the Myers family!

I first met Katie & baby JT last summer when I photographed them at the Biltmore Estate! Then, I photographed their fall family portraits in October and Katie & I have been planning JT's 1st Birthday Session ever since!

As I well know, it's not always mom & the photographer who decide how the session's gonna go! Katie & I had big plans for JT's first birthday session but this handsome little man had other plans for us!

Despite an appointment for tubes and deciding that he didn't want to have his photos made on our second attempt, we still managed to get some adorable shots of JT enjoying his 1st Birthday Cake this weekend!

I am so happy to have met the Myers family and look forward to photographing your family many times as JT grows!

I first met Kenzi in December when we shot her Maternity Portraits!

Some partnerships just feel like fate and this friendship feels like one of those!

Kenzi & I spent a whole afternoon getting creative with her Maternity Portraits {which I LOVE} when my clients get excited about being creative and bringing their ideas to the table!

{That's what makes really special photos!}

Since then, I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of baby CY! I was even hoping that he & I would share a Birthday! But, this handsome little man made his appearance on January 27, 2012 at 8:37pm! He weighed 8lbs 12oz and was 20.5 inches long! He is such a warm, cuddely, handsome little man!

Cy did so well today! He slept almost the entire morning for us... Which made it possible to get these adorable photos!

Enjoy!

It' was so funny, the only thing that would keep him asleep amidst all of the poses and moving around was the sound of the guitar this morning! I believe we have a future Rock Star on our hands!

Kerri & Giovanny are finishing up their Senior Year at Mars Hill College & a Championship wasn't the only thing Giovanny found on the football field! The couple also found love on the football field more than a year ago!

Kerri called me a couple weeks ago to come out and shoot some photos of the couple to comemorate the place where they met & fell in love! These photos will be part of their history and because of them, they'll never forget how they felt about each other during their senior year of college!

It seems like just yesterday that I photographed Kenley & Raegan Haywood's newborn photos! It's so hard to believe it's been a year!

I just love the Haywood family!

I first met Kyle & Elisabeth when they contacted me for maternity photos a year and a half ago! After the twins arrived, I shot their newborn photos and was completely delighted to spend the afternoon shooting their 1st Birthday Session on Saturday!

Kenley & Raegan are such chubby, sweet, cuddly little girls! Raegan is more reserved and Kenley is the more outgoing twin, she dove right into their cake without reservation! These girls are such troopers, we spent about 3hrs shooting their birthday portraits! They were late for lunch & naps and were just as sweet as pie!

I love this family & I love these little girls!

I just LOVE making new friends!

Kenzi is such an incredibly sweet, interesting, fun, beautiful person & I just adore her! So glad fate landed you in front of my lens!

I shoot a lot of maternity portraits but shooting nude materntiy portraits makes you marvel at how incredible the female body is, how it changes to create life! Kenzi is so excited to meet her little guy {Cy} & will be a wonderful mother!

I just adore the Ballew Family!

I have known Jennifer & Matt since high school & have had the opportunity to photograph their sweet family & their adorable little girl, Nora many times over the last year and a half!

Everytime I see Nora, I just fall more in love with this little girl! She's the cutest, sweetest little thing & she's growing so fast! I photographed Nora last summer in Chapel Hill & cannot believe how much she's grown in just six months!

Matt & Jen just announced wonderful news, they're expecting a little brother or sister for Nora in the Spring! I'm looking forward to maternity & newborn sessions with the Ballew's in 2012!

Shea is one of my best girlfriends! Shea is one of the funniest, sweetest people that I know! I absolutely adore her & her son Grayson!

I met Taylor & Darius two years ago while in Graduate School & we kept in touch over the years!

I was overjoyed when I found out that the couple were expecting a baby girl!

As any photographer well knows, it's often the baby that decides when a session is over!

This was my second time shooting photos of the Nolan Gladys & his beautiful mommy! This time around, Nolan's dad, as well as his uncle and grandpa joined us on the Blue Ridge Parkway for some fall family photos!

Our session was cut short this time around because Nolan decided that our session this weekend was to only last a half hour! I was able to steal a few gorgeous photos of this adroable family before our session ended!

Daresse had been deployed in Kuwait since May and contacted me a few weeks ago to schedule a 'couples session' with his girlfriend Phillipa once he returned to the States. A couple days ago, Daresse emailed me to let me know that what I thought was going to be a 'couples session' was actually going to be a great deal more than that, it was going to be a day that they would remember for the rest of their lives, captured on film! Daresse & Phil came to Asheville from Huntsville,AL for what turned out to be an Engagement Session at the Biltmore Estate!

I've known Ashley for years! We cheered together in high school, we're both ECU Alumni {Go Pirates!} and I absolutely adore her & her entire family! Ashley & Lee are such an adorably cute couple, they're both so kind & funny, they are perfectly suited for each other! Ashley booked this session months ago and then Lee popped the question over a game of 'Things' with friends, so this 'couples session' became an Engagement Session!

Rachel & Travis are having a Baby!

I've known Rachel for years! She is absolutely the funniest, sweetest lady! She and her husband have booked a maternity session in November when he's home but Rachel came up to Asheville from Charlotte yesterday for a 'fall' maternity session! It was nice to shoot some outdoor photos with leaves on the trees and that warm autumn light! Rachel is absolutely glowing! She's such a beautiful, happy pregnant lady & you can totally see that in these gorgeous photos!

Emily & Lonnie have been engaged for quite a while now! I've known Emily for years and was so excited when chose me for her wedding photography! They'll be Eloping to Vegas on October 15th! {I'll finally be able to share her gorgeous bridal portriats we shot last week!} Emily & Lonnie are both very laid back, sweet, funny people! They really are perfect for each other & compliment one another so well!

The Solomon Family

This marked my third time photographing the Solomon family! I just love these guys to death! Raegan first contacted me when she was pregnant with Griffin last winter! I shot her maternity & newborn photos and was excited to photograph the family again this fall! What a difference six months makes! Leyton {the sweet red head} was not a huge fan of the camera the last couple of times I saw her! This time around, she was the star of the show! She gave me a kiss & told me that she'd miss me when their session was over! {I think she was ready for her milkshake though!}

The hardest part about shooting Bridal Portraits is definitely: Keeping the Photos to Myself for however many days/months! I've said it before but I absolutely adore April! She was such a gorgeous bride, her wedding was this past Saturday at the NC Arboetum in Asheville! The wedding was beautiful, I'll blog some samples from the wedding a little later!

I just adore Kurt & April Holcombe! The couple were married on Saturday, September 17th, 2011 at the NC Arboretum in Asheville, NC. April & Kurt are really fun, sweet people as are their family and friends. It was an absolutely beautiful wedding! The day started out a little rainy but by time for photos, it couldn't have been more perfect!

Mandy & Robert came all the way from Virginia for their couple's session this afternoon! During our session, I found out that Mandy is a fellow ECU Pirate Alumni! Go Pirates! Mandy first saw my work through a mutual facebook connection {her cousin} and a dear friend of mine who is currently living in L.A.! Mandy & Robert are such sweet people, I really enjoyed our afternoon together & am looking forward to meeting their entire family next fall!

April & Kurt are Engaged!

I absolutely Adore April & Kurt! They are one of the sweetest, funniest couples I've ever met! I'm pretty sure April & I were cut from the same cloth! I shot her bridal portraits a couple weeks ago & I'll tell ya, the more time I spend with her, I just love her more and more! We have the same kind of humor & our sessions are like a really fun hangout with old friends, we laughed the entire time! April booked her wedding with me early this year and I've worked with her a great deal leading up to the wedding but only met Kurt Saturday evening at the engagement session! Kurt is such a kind, sweet guy! They compliment each other perfectly! He works for Norfolk Southern so we had to get some train themed shots for these guys! Their wedding is September 17th at the Arboretum in Asheville, only a couple weeks left!

We were laughing at posing and decided to to an awkward family photo..... In the moment it was SO funny. Check out Kurt's facial!

Dana & Brent are such awesome, sweet people & their children are simply adorable! Brady, the oldest is such a neat, inquisitive kid! Carter's got the most gorgeous hair color, he's such a little cutie & Raegan, the belle of the family... do I really need to say it?! The child is gorgeous! We had such a good time shooting in Candler this evening, here are a few samples from our evening together!

I'm so excited to finally be able to share these gorgeous bridal portraits! We shot Lacey's bridal portraits in McDowell County back in May & I'll tell ya, it's been so hard to keep them to myself! We shot some at the church that I went to as a kid & then some of them in Pleasant Gardens. Lacey is such a beautiful person inside & out! She made an even more beautiful bride!

Issac & Lacey are Married!

I've known Issac for years and have only recently met Lacey! Lacey is such a sweet, beautiful person, I simply adore her! These two are such a lovely couple, they couldn't be better suited! Both are really laid back and soft spoken and both are just as kind as they can be! I had the priviledge of shooting engagement portraits for them at Biltmore & Bridal Portraits in our hometown over the summer and have grown really fond of them as a couple! On their wedding day it was hard to believe how many year I'd known Issac {since lifeguarding at the Rec in high school}, who would have ever thought I'd be photographing his wedding day! Poor Lacey had been so stressed out in the weeks leading up to the wedding {which turned out beautifully might I ad!} They're taking a well deserved trip to Mexico! Have fun guys!

Savannah & Chris are such a sweet couple! This was my second session with them because our first attempt was rained out! I absolutely adore these guys! I think the thing that makes them most perfect for each other is how they came to find each other! They met many years ago but each followed their own path... ironically, that path led them back to each other! Chris proposed at Lowes so we had to go over to the store for a few shots! :) Also, they're both big Braves fans so we ended our session at the baseball stadium! Congratulations Chris & Savannah!

Welcome Home Baby Ryker!

Sweet Ryker decided to make an early arrival & spent the first three weeks of his life in NICU. He is still such a tiny little guy & so incredibly sweet! I had a fun afternoon with his mom, dad & big sister {who's such a little beauty!} The Herron family are such sweet people & I'm especially excited because Ryker's mom purchased my belly to baby package, so I'll get to document his growth & development throughout the coming year! Welcome Home Ryker!
